Rabies Vaccinations & Dog Licenses

Dog Licenses & Rabies Vaccinations

Midway City (6.07.010, 6.08.010) and Wasatch County (8.08.01, 8.09.01) share the same municipal codes regarding dog licensing and rabies vaccinations. Simply put, both are required. According to Midway City Municipal Code 6.08.010:

“Vaccination Required. Dog owners shall obtain a rabies vaccination for each dog they own, keep, harbor, or have custody of, within one month after it becomes four (4) months of age, or within one month after obtaining any dog over four (4) months of age. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to own, keep, harbor, or possess or to have in his or her care, charge, or custody, any dog four (4) months of age or over unless such dog has a current and valid rabies vaccination administered by any duly qualified and licensed veterinarian, with a rabies vaccine approved by the State Department of Health for use in dogs. Such vaccination shall be repeated at intervals specified by the State Department of Health in order to maintain adequate immunity.”

Once the vaccination is given, the owner can then purchase a dog license either from the city treasurer, online at www.midwaycityut.org/pet-licensing/, or at the shelter. Tags for both the license AND the rabies vaccine are required to be displayed on the dog’s collar as well, as stated in Midway City code 6.07.010 Section E:

“Tags to be Worn. Each dog, required to be licensed, shall wear at all times the current license tag assigned to the dog except: when the dog is participating in any dog exhibition, field trial, or competition; or when the dog is confined in a licensed kennel or veterinary hospital, in which case the license tag number shall be recorded and placed nearby so that it is readily identifiable with the dog with which it belongs; or if not licensed, that fact shall be clearly indicated on the facility’s records. A license tag shall not be removed from any dog without the consent of the owner thereof.”

Failure to comply with these codes could result in potential citations, so please ensure your dog is vaccinated and licensed.
